Universities in Newcastle to apply for slice of £15m Government cash pot

Universities in Newcastle will be able to apply for a slice of £15m of funding provided by the UK Government in order to establish new university enterprise zones in the eight main UK cities, a news report in the local business media has revealed.

The Newcastle unis will have to go against other higher education establishments in Liverpool, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Nottingham and Sheffield in order to access this cash pot, that’s been specifically designed to develop business spaces to support high-tech start up companies.

The scheme is part of an overall £415m government cash injection to "back business, boost high streets and create jobs" and also includes £300m to give 300,000 small retail companies £1,000 off their next tax bill.

Eric Pickles, communities secretary, said: "As part of our long term economic plan, we are backing business and enterprise right across the country, helping town centres and local industries to prosper, and building a stronger economy.

"This money for infrastructure will transform acres of Enterprise Zone land and build a stronger, more competitive business environment that will create up to 3000 jobs for hardworking people across the country."

The implementation of investment schemes made possible by these supplementary funds will likely result in the creation of quite a large number of new jobs across numerous companies, and this is specifically where Time & Attendance North East can help.
