iPhone App enables emergency services to check their hours on the move
South Yorkshire firefighters have suspended their industrial action ballot after union chiefs and the fire service agreed to talks. Unions had objected to the planned closure of four fire stations, plus a new shift system. Two months ago fire authority members voted to close stations in Darnall, Mansfield Road and Mosborough in Sheffield and Royston near Barnsley. These will be replaced with two stations at Sheffield Parkway and Birley. It is understood talks will take place in a few weeks.
