Rotherham is bearing the brunt of a firm’s decision to cut 156 jobs in Yorkshire. Rotherham will lose 110 posts of the 156 jobs going at sites in South and West Yorkshire.
Some 53 jobs will go in Hull at a retailer’s head office and support centre. The troubled store chain Comet has gone into administration and the Hull staff are some of hundreds being made redundant.
Approximately 540 staff at Maltby Colliery, near Rotherham, were issued with redundancy notices last month. It is planned that the deep coal pit will be closed in the near future.
