New 45,000 sq ft ASDA store could be built in Durham, create 400 new jobs

Supermarket giant ASDA is proposing to build a brand-new 45,000 sq ft store in Durham, that, if completed, would lead to the creation of up to 400 new jobs in the area, a recent news report has revealed.

The new store, which would also include a petrol station and 365 space care park, represents a multimillion-pound investment and would provide a major long-term boost to the local economy.

Philip Bartram, ASDA’s senior property communications manager, said: "These plans have the potential to deliver not just a fresh and exciting new offer to local shoppers but a significant long-term economic boost to this part of the city.

"The creation of up to 400 new Asda jobs is set to make a huge difference to hundreds of local household budgets.

"We really hope people come along to the exhibition at Laurel Avenue. It will not only help our prospective new customers, colleagues and neighbours in finding out more about the plans, it will help us too in understanding local views prior to finalising the planning application."
