New offshore survival training centre to be built on North Tyneside, create 30 new jobs

A brand new offshore survival training centre is set to be built by AIS Training on North Tyneside in order to cope with the growing demand for training courses from the offshore industry, a recent report in the local business media has revealed.

The 20,000 sq ft training centre will be built next to the headquarters of AIS on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate and will feature an array of facilities including an environmental pool, fire training centre and lifeboat and davit system. The centre will also include classrooms, changing facilities, a restaurant and meeting rooms with construction work expected to be completed by January 2014.

The centre will train workers from the offshore oil and gas, wind and maritime sectors in how to cope in the event of an emergency and will initially lead to 15 new jobs being created. The company also expects the facility, on which construction work is expected to be completed by January 2014, to help double its existing turnover within a 12 to 18-month period, in addition to the launch of a range of new training packages.
